ATF’s Facial Recognition—The Smoking Gun The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has confirmed what we long suspected: The ATF has access to advanced facial recognition technology and has used it without oversight to target gun owners. Here’s what we know: The ATF has access to Clearview AI, Vigilant Solutions, and multiple state and federal facial recognition databases. These systems pull from over 30 billion facial images scraped from news sites, mugshots, and—yes—your social media. The ATF conducted at least 549 facial recognition searches between 2019 and 2022.
